Free Crochet Pattern - No Place Like Home

I try to place projects on the blog that I have either tried
or
 would love to try
 but
there is not enough time in the world to make everything I want.
So...
This blanket I would love to make but right now
I am making a chunky blanket.
I will take a picture of it when it is done in the meanwhile...

Winter Blanket by LillaBjorn Crochet

My Grandfather, Christopher Turner, owned Barron Woolen Mills and he made the best sweaters, coats, and blankets.
He made one for each of us and when I had to throw it away (due to overuse)
I felt that I was loosing a part of my Grandfather.

I want to make something that the my kids and grandchildren would pull
out of the closet and think of me!

I think that I found one!

I am going to give you the link because there are several links to follow for the full pattern, Winter Blanket

Granite Stitch Men's Scarf

Crochet for Fall Fashion

The wind is blustery with gray and white clouds streaming by my front porch. A lone leaf is tumbling down the sidewalk. It is a wonderful fall day. Football is on and all my children will be over for hamburgers and a great Browns game. I hope!

Crochet and knitting isn't your Mothers or Grandmother craft anymore. Designers are incorporating them into their designs. Let's take a look.

Chunky Ripple Blanket

Winter is coming and I looked up the forecast for the US and according to the Farmers Almanac it is going to be winter from December 20 to May 20. And for most of the US it will be cold, so, let's get crocheting. The first afghan is a ripple afghan. This isn't a new pattern and your mother or grandmother probably have a few afghans like these hanging on the backs of their sofas. I love them because they look very difficult and they aren't. You can use this pattern from a baby blanket to a Christmas blanket. The count is the same.

Here is a pattern from Zoey from Zoey Makes.

Her pattern looks as though it will keep you very warm on those cold winter days:

Patriotic Pillow- free patterm

This is by far the easiest pattern for this very special pillow cover.

Tip - Measure your pillow that you want to cover (I am recovering an existing pillow that is bigger than what is suggested) and adjust your pattern.

New! Hot! Raffia for crochet

Premier Home came out with a Raffia line.
It is 100% Cellulose Rayon.
Of course you can make 100 straw flowers and I am sure that I will,
but I wanted to make a basket.
They suggest using a 5.5mm hook as a good girl I did.

It comes in several colors, but this is the one that choose me.
Do you know how to make a circle,
if not, there are several sites that can show you how
but anything that you make round it will instruct you on how to crochet a circle.
With this knowledge you can carry on to many great items to crochet.
One skein made this basket!
It measures 7"round and 3" high

Here's another shot of the basket.

I did Double Crochet but I wish I had done half double crochet.
It isn't very sturdy but I will either create a plastic lining out of soda bottles or something.
One thing that I love about crochet baskets is -
I can fold them up and store them away!

Have a great weekend!

Until we meet again,
Claudia

Just a thought!

Loom Knitting

I found this on Pinterest:

Loom Knitting-Beginners Welcome

Okay, I am hooked on Loom Knitting. I have a series of youtube videos to help you get started.  Follow the link to get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7u43wfnmb3M

The crafter is know as the Good Nite Knitter.

Check it out.

I have been experimenting with different yarns.

When working with the Soft Yarns, I found that the yarns are too small in circumference and the gauge on the loom are too large, I gives the hat a too loose stitch, so, I remembered that Knit and Crochet Now! a TV show on Create TV, did a stitch and it goes like this:

I don't know if you can see the difference in the stitches,

Below is the using two strands:

Below is an example of a worsted yarn is which is thicker than a "soft" yarn.

Below is an example of a "soft" yarn.

It is looser in the stitch which can be great for a summer hat, but, it you want a tighter stitch use the following:

"e-wrap" your loom three times.

Only use the bottom loop to bring up and over. It doubles the stitch up and made it thicker.

I am sorry for my bad teaching, I hope that you followed the examples. Good luck!
